Heartache knows no sexuality

I am listening to Bronski Beat's classic Small town Boy and feel like I have discovered a jewel. Jimmy Sommerville's feminine voice echoes over the synth-pop sound of the early 80's. 1983 to be specific, one year after I was born. The stunning video shows Jimmy as a boy with a cruch on a boy in the local swimming team.

The result efter taking after demonstrating this love: getting beaten up by the object of his love and a few thugs. His father rejects the queer Sommerville, and he is left to contemplate on his situation on the train as the song progresses.

"Run away, turn away, Run away,
Run away, turn away, Run away,

Pushed around and kicked around,
Always a lonely boy,

You are the one that they talk about,

as they put you down.

And as hard as they would try,
They'd hurt to make you cry,
But you never cried to them,

Just to your soul,

No you never cried to them,

Just to your soul

Run away, turn away, Run away,
Run away, turn away, Run away,"
