Nils Frahm's Gift

This live performance by pianist and composer Nils Frahm left me speachless. So it felt fitting to pass this on to you, this special christmas day.

This was performed in St John-at-Hackney Church in July this year.

I will say nothing more then leave you with these fifteen and a half minutes work of art.

I Loves you Porgy

The year is 1962. Nina Simone sings Billie Holliday's original song I loves you porgy, easily trancending 50 years since the performance took place. One of the great singer's and perhaps worthy the title of cultural icon. Listen and let it move you.

Nine minutes and forty-four seconds

If there there is a song I adore in all its simplicity it is Ame's techno classic Rej. I blogged about it before while writing something about the primitiveness of techno. Fortunatly there are two reinterpretations on the original theme, one which is even better then the original. German (super)band Sonar Kollektiv Orchester outdid themselves when they recorded this take on Rej. Available for purchase on the german label aptly titled Sonar kollektiv as well.

So enjoy the ride which stretches for 9 minutes and 44 seconds.

Jazz from a Norwegian point of View

One of my favorite contemporary Jazz artists is trumpet player Nils Petter Molvaer. He has written a few album's which aside from his own take on Jazz reminiscence Scandinavian folk music as well as borrowing techniques from the electronic avant garde. It is in other words a fusion in the truest sense of the word.

If the name does not ring any bell, I advice you to take a moment and listen to these two songs.

What Jazz turned Into

From Sonar Kollektiv 10th Anniversary Party, with band Christian Prommer's Drumlesson. I bought their album straight from the independent Berlin-label Sonar Kollektiv a couple of months ago. An album well worth getting, if you ask me. The band reinterpret classic techno, house and dance music into something completely different. Enjoy the listen!
