Tonight I am heading towards Norway to spend some quality time with one of my brothers. He's taking a flight to South Africa soon and I am there to give him his pass port, which was left with his family in Sweden. Little did I think of that this is the weekend that the Norwegian national day is celebrated - the 17th of May.
There will be flags waving, and if Norway wins the Eurovision Song Contest; which I bet, the sense of pride will most likely be overflowing. Alexander Rybak who will contending for Norway managed to move on from the semi-final yesterday with the song Fairytale, which adds a folk-music touch with the violin in the focus. I can honestly say that this charming song has won me over. I like it, I like it a lot.
Oslo, here I come!

My parents lived in Norway very briefly before I was born. My father had a scholarship to study forestry there, but had to return to the U.S. early due to a death in the family. I have always wanted to visit. I wish you safe and enjoyable travels--and hope for photos!

I am so envious - my father immigrated from Norway, but I have not been there. I have been to Sweden and to Copenhagan (I work for a world renowmed Swedish furniture company!) but never to Norway. One day soon, I hope!

I haven't been listening much to bluegrass, but I wouldent be sursprised if there was similarites between more folksy music found all over the world.

I googled it and I didn't find any version with norwegian vocals. Either my googlefu is failing me or he actually sung in english in the norwegian competition too.
