Reasons for Ecstasy

The Troupe EP over at Monotonic net-label.

I do not find the proper words for these magnificent tracks. This is so damn good that I you really would do yourself good in getting the stuff right now.

New stuff at my musical horizon:
- Remixed and changed a couple of small things on Watching while the world goes by. Probably not even noticable for the casual listener.
- The unreleased track Inside these walls will have a altered and more abrupt ending.
- Laying down the tracks for a probable EP / Demo
These are the tracks that I think cut it. (linked are the older versions of the tracks)
1. Nu Disco
2. Spread Those Wings
3. Inside These Walls
4. This Is What The Fight Is About
5. Watching While The World Goes By

Miles sense of Simplicity

Robert Miles - Dreamland.

One thing that springs to mind when I listen to Miles album Dreamland is simplicity. Simplicity and beauty. For those who haven't given Miles a listen, this could be described as soft, classic melodic trance. Or dream-house at it was called in the mid 90's. For the reason of the simplicity of his music, he was both loved and frowned upon.

Instead of relying totally on synthesisers, Dreamland is very focused on the Piano to give the music it's melodic push forward. Comparing Dreamland to today's artists in the field of trance is also not quite fair. His sound has aged. 1996 is not 2007, not in terms of the constant changing characteristics of electronic music at least. The mixing of today's trance-artists such as Armin Van Buren and Paul Van Dyk is ages ahead in terms of the dynamics of sound. But Miles has something timeless to offer in terms of music, mainly in his lovely melodies.

Dreamland was the album to feature the vocal-driven track One and One. Originally indented for Polish female artist Edyta Górniak, and also released on her album Edyta. Dreamland was also the album of lovely tracks such as Children and Fable. If you have not already given Miles a listen, you should. Dreamland is a piece of musical history. Interesting to note is that today, Robert Miles makes music that is anything but generic. Alternative rock as well as nu-jazz and electronica is in his field of interest now.

When it hurts so bad...

How much can it hurt when you are left standing all alone? I did not know that it could hurt this much. I feel disoriented and in a state of chock, not angry, just sad. And very confused to top it of. I so wish that everything will turn out for the better. No matter how it turns out. And my heart wants her back. For a sharing, caring and simple love.

To comfort myself I bought a dirt-cheap maxi single with Donna Summer today. Starring the famous track Love to love you baby on 12-inch vinyl. What I did not know was that she on this extended mix does the porn thing with the "oohs" and "aahs" over disco-legend Giorgio Moroders production. It's nothing new under the sun in other words, artists yesterday as well as today have to sell on sex for commercial reasons. No matter if it is 1975 or 2007.

But Summer does manage to capture the feeling of hurt when your love is gone. Beyond her image, there is substance and poetry. In the track Full of emptiness she puts out the feelings beautifully.

"Full of emptiness
broken promises
and love turned out so sad

the hurt goes on and on

Full of emptiness

hello loneliness

good friends will mind
the sands of time
have slipped through my hands

From the bottom to the top

why he had me feeling fine
then I took a long long drop
when he walked out of my life"

Crude grafitti

Simple grafitti

I cannot help to think that there is beauty in everyday things, even in things viewed on as ugly. Such as this. There is also a difference between artistic grafitti and crude tagging. This belongs to the latter. But still, it is a sign of life.

Gotta love the Mashup

One of the most interesting developments in remix culture at the moment is the Mashup. The main idea is to take two or more songs, and mix them together. Say, R&B donna Mary J. Blige singing in Real love, now futured on her Reflections album, and the arrangement and music of discocat Tony Valor.

What you get is something completely new. All this love is taking part outside of the conservative record industry.

Isn't it wonderful that music is alive and breathing.

"You see I'm searching for a real love
and I don't know where to go
Been around the world and high and low
and still I'll never know how it feels to have a real love
'cause it seems it's not around
gotta end it in this way because it seems he can't be found"
Real love - Mary J. Blige

This is how it can sound thanks to Ageema Blues, who releases music over at the mashup netlabel Quiche.

I still can't feel the ground

Anticipation
Photo: Robert Halvarsson

Today I want to share a few words from the song Sober written by english indie-band Drugstore. Taken from their album White magic for lovers, that was released in 1998. As beautifully sung by Isabel Monteiro.

"I'm so scared I might fall down,
I'm feeling sober now.

But I still can't feel the ground.

Time, it's time to make amends,
but it's not that hard to sense.

That things are different now."

Straight trough the heart

"I want to stay beside you,

And here I will remain.

Your love protects and guides me,

And helps me through the pain."
Odyssey - Todd Edwards

Todd Edwards may be the only openly christian DJ that I return to, over and over again. With his totally original garage-house, coupled with his often faith-related lyrics, he manages to create something completely out of this world. It goes straight trough the heart of me.

"And your love within me burns like a fire."
Like a fire - Todd Edwards

And he seems to have released a new album via I! Records. The song Odyssey has helped me before, and this album would be one of the albums that I would buy for the reason to support the artist.

Other albums that I want to get (for the moment being):
Bennasi Bros - Phobia
Anthony and the Johnssons - I am the bird now
Koop -
Koop Islands
Epoq - Scintilla
